As an army reserve in the U.S. Army, you are a part-time Soldier, and you need to take into notice that  you are only required to train and report for duty just one weekend a month and two weeks a year. As an Army Reserve you are allowed to live wherever you wish, attend school and take on a civilian job if you wish. As an Active Duty Soldier in the United states Army, you are a full time serving soldier .

Take into cognizance that you will live on a base (military), either within the United States or in a foreign country. While on active duty, you will continually be paid your full salary as a soldier on active duty and you will receive health and retirement benefits.

  1. ENLISTED SOLDIERS

Enlisted Soldiers are the most important part of the Army. I choose to think that the Enlisted soldiers are somewhat like the employees of a company. They are responsible for carrying out all missions and tasks. As an enlisted Soldier, you could serve either on active duty, or in the Army Reserve.

Can Non-U.S. Citizens Join the United States Military?

This has been the most pooped at us question recently. This is one of the major reasons I wrote this post; to give out the right answer to this sought question.

Does the United States recruit NON-U.S. citizens? YES! They do.  Applicants who are from other countries outside the United States are accepted into the army but they need to possess a green card. Read about a green card here

For Every recruitment year, more than 8,000 green card holders who are non-U.S. citizens join the U.S. Army. Recent policy changes may however interfere with the ability for some resident but non-U.S. citizens to join the military, even in a limited (no security clearance) capacity.

A few things need to be considered though for non-citizens who wish to apply for the U.S. Army recruitment.

  1. A non-citizen can enlist in the military.
  2. Federal law do not permit non-citizens to become commission or warrant officers.
  3. Anyone (non-citizen) who wishes to be recruited by the U.S. Army and be enlisted should make sure he/she is a legal immigrant. A legal immigrant as we know must possess a green card(think of a green card like a permanent residence card for all immigrants who passed through legal processes to get into the United States)
  4. Non- citizens who wish to be enlisted in the Army, they need to be permanently residing in the United States.
  5. Get the green card (if they do not have any)issued by the Citizenship and Immigration Services of the Department of Homeland Security and contains a photo and fingerprint.
